Alliant Energy Generation System Operator I in Madison, Wisconsin

3647BRJob Responsibilities:

  • Direct, dispatch, coordinate, and optimize the operation all Alliant Energy and CIPCO generating units during normal operation, alerts, warnings and emergencies while maintaining reliability of the Alliant Energy East and West Balancing Authorities. Ensure compliance with all applicable North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and MRO reliability standards as well as MISO, TOP and Alliant Energy standards and procedures.

  • Ensure all generation assets follow MISO provided dispatch signals. Start and stop generators in response to requests from MISO, or to relieve emergency conditions as needed by the Transmission Operator.

  • Utilize the Generation Management System (GMS) to monitor all critical aspects of the bulk electric system including, but not limited to: system load, frequency, tie-line and generator status, voltage levels, etc. Ensure quality and accuracy of real-time telemetered data and respond to failures by manually updating data and coordinating failed equipment repair or replacement.

  • Coordinate and submit generator outage requests, limitations, and testing with MISO, the Transmission Operator, and Energy Market Operations. Report status of forced and planned plant outage requests to appropriate entities.

  • Monitor real time interconnected tie line flows and perform nightly interconnection check out with neighboring utilities.

  • Take or direct appropriate action during normal and emergency conditions to maintain the reliability of the bulk electric system, including implementation of interruptible load, direct load control, firm load shedding or other load management resources.

  • Respond to system emergencies and assist in the implementation of black start procedures.

  • Ensure accurate daily operations log and detailed records are maintained during shift. Report abnormal or emergency conditions to operations management as necessary.

  • All other duties as assigned

Alliant Energy has a rewarding and exciting opportunity for a Generation System Operator I or II in our Madison, WI office. In this position you will:

  • Be responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient real-time operation of the Alliant Energy East and West Balancing Authority Areas by overseeing the dispatch of all generation assets

  • Be responsible for monitoring system conditions and adhering to all applicable NERC Standards in addition to all MISO and MRO procedures and requirements

Position requires:

  • A Bachelor’s degree, OR, in the absence of a degree, four years of related experience

  • NERC System Operator Certification is required or must be obtained within six months and maintained.

  • Be able to work a 12 hour rotating shift that includes nights, weekends, and holidays
